 | | Do you want to help close the gap? | | | | YCA is committed to bridging the gap between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians by supporting programs which contribute to improving health, education, wellbeing and pride in Indigenous Australian communities. | | Programs in Indigenous Australia range from 4 – 10 weeks in duration. Volunteers (18+) are placed either in pairs or by themselves, depending on what is needed in the community and the volunteers' experience. Dates for some programs are flexible, and programs run throughout the year. | | YCA works in partnership with community based organisations to identify areas of need where hard working, energetic, passionate volunteers can work with a community to focus on one of the following areas: • Education • Youth work | YCA have placed over 145 volunteers in Indigenous Australian communities since 2004 and have worked in 17 communities throughout Central Australia, the Top End, West Arnhem Land and most recently in the Kimberley. | | During this time, YCA have developed significant knowledge of the issues and needs facing Indigenous Australian communities and we apply this expertise to our volunteer training. Our programs are designed in full consultation with our partners and together we put in place measures to provide our volunteers with a supportive work environment. | | Volunteers are given the unique opportunity to live in an Indigenous community, and come away from the program with an open and realistic idea about what impacts Indigenous communities and are motivated to promote reconciliation. | | By recruiting volunteers from all over Australia, we provide valuable linkages between Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities and encourage culture and knowledge exchange. | | The more volunteers we recruit and train, the greater impact we can have on bridging the gap! | | | | Explore the side menu bar under 'Indigenous Australia' to see how you can GET INVOLVED! | | | |
