What is VoICE?
YCA’s exciting new Volunteers In Community Engagement (VoICE) program offers skilled young Australians the opportunity to volunteer in India and Vanuatu.  Participants will work alongside our partner organisations, local counterparts, and local communities to build the capacity and strengthen the sustainability of local development efforts.
This program provides a unique opportunity for volunteers to make a valuable contribution to international development whilst gaining invaluable career experience in a cross-cultural environment.  There are a wide range of placements available to people with diverse skills and qualifications.
VoICE provides an opportunity for volunteers to work in partner countries to achieve a number of development aims including:
·         Improve health – by strengthening the organisational capacity of health NGOs;
·         Improve education – by addressing issues of poor teacher retention and inadequate classroom practices;
·         Increase economic capacity – by increasing the options for small income generation projects;
·         Increase gender equality – by increasing community awareness and promoting equal opportunity; and
·         Improve human rights – by improving access for people with disabilities to community participation.
The first round of YCA’s VoICE program departed for India in September 2011, with placements running for 15 weeks.
The second round of YCA's VoICE program departed for India and Vanuatu in February 2012, with placements running for 15 weeks in India, and 6 months in Vanuatu.

The third round of YCA's VoICE program will depart for India in September 2012 with placements running for 15 weeks.
Who funds VoICE?
YCA are proud to have the support of the Australian Government’s AusAID ‘Pilot Volunteer Fund Program' for these placements, as recognition of the substantial contribution which the VoICE Program will make to cross cultural understanding, poverty reduction and sustainable development.
AusAID funds the majority of the program costs, including airfares, recruitment, food, accommodation, training, and all program development expenses. Successful candidates are only required to contribute a total of $1,500 towards these program costs.

Who can apply for VoICE?
To be eligible for the YCA VoICE Program, you must be aged 21 – 30 at the time of departure, and be an Australian citizen.
The skills required for each placement vary, and include areas such as research, policy, teaching, health, community development, communications, film and photography, marketing and business.
There are a number of important attributes that VoICE participants need for all placements, including a passion for community development and a commitment to making a positive contribution, a desire to gain international and cross-cultural experience, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, flexibility and perseverance.
Indigenous Australian applicants are encouraged to apply.
If this sounds like you, have a look at the 'VoICE India' page and the 'VoICE Vanuatu' page for all the details of round two placements.
